The SHS Varsity Boys finished last in their attempt to capture the championship in the courts of ASD and QA during Sept. 17 to Oct. 8, 2018.

Despite their hardworking efforts to try to bring home the bacon, the Blue Phoenix boys fell short in their attempt to do so. The results of their past four games have all been losses, and with the loss of their most recent game, they are now ranked as last in the standings. The apparent reason why the boys lost was their lack of chemistry. They made mistakes on some plays during the games’ crucial moments, and on some games, just looked not confident enough to win.

On their first match of the season against ASD, Kyle Baguinang, a player of the Blue Phoenix mentioned that they lost because of their lack of communication and nervousness. The PISQian girls were able to make comebacks, as they chased the 4-0 early scoring of the other team, eventually winning the set by an inch with the score of 24-25. The same thing cannot be said to the boys, who were just not able to make the same comeback and lose to a score of 18-25. In the second set, it was more of the same thing. The ASD team was again able to dominate the early parts of the set, having an early lead for them. The boys were just not able to get a comeback, resulting in a loss with the score of 25-15. The boys also lost the game with the 2nd set loss.

On their second match of the season when they fought against PSD, they did show tremendous effort, but were just cut short on the final moments of the two sets. The Blue Phoenix boys unfortunately lost to the PSD’s boys volleyball team with a score of 19-25, 19-25. The PISQ’s boys volleyball team showed tremendous effort to overcome the PSD’s boys volleyball team strength. Darius Arriola tried to score for the Blue phoenix down from the second set with his power hits, but the PSD’s boys volleyball team play was just too good. “We did our best and fought for the school but maybe it's still not the right time for us.” said Teodoro, who is the Captain Ball of PISQ’s volleyball boys team.

SHS Blue Phoenix boys unfortunately lost in their 3rd game of the season to the Falcons boys with a 19-25 and 21-25. On the first set the blue phoenix lost with a great difference on the score. On the first set of their game, it was very clear that the Blue Phoenix was analysing how their opponents play their game and getting used to it. “Binigay na namin yung best namin pero alam kong may mas better pa sana kaming magagawa.” including “Madaming errors” said by their captain ball Prince Teodoro. They had errors in their serves and their receptions. The Blue Phoenix was down 09 to 20 against the Falcons but with their tremendous effort and their hunger for a win they were able to chase the score down with 15-23 and finally 19-25. On the 2nd set the Blue Phoenix almost won against Falcons with the Blue Phoenix winning rallies and with Jeyster Abellada executing a great block against the Falcon’s spiker.

The Blue Phoenix Boys(PISQ) suffered its 3rd consecutive defeats against a higher-ranked opponent, the Falcons Boys(QA) in a match where it was in control most of the time once more on October 8 with a score of 25-17, 25-17.

The Blue Phoenix had an advantage at the start of the game they scored 8 points quickly. The Falcons committed violations yes, but the Falcons also retrieved their lost scored quickly too by making powerful spikes, effort on keeping the ball alive, and making unpredictable plays.

The Blue Phoenix made some quite amount of errors such as reception errors especially when it was the time for the two spikers from the Falcons to serve the ball. They also committed service errors which they did by either hitting the ball too hard or too soft. The Blue Phoenix lost the first set with a score of 25-17. On the second set, it was obvious that the Blue Phoenix tried they absolute best, but it seems that their best was not enough to win the game. “Nandoon yoon skill, pero siguro hindi pa sila gaano ka-expose kung paano nila controlin yoon emosyon nila sa crucial play. Nawala sila sa mindset sa laro nung nakita nila yung intensity sa laro” said by SHS Blue Phoenix Volleyball team boys Sir Mike Pioquinto. They are all skilled but when they see the opponent’s score go further they will feel pressured and panic it is a hindrance to the performance of the team as the coach said. The second set ended with a score of 25-17. They rallied with giving their maximum effort and dedication, they chased the ball with hopes of getting a score. Their heart flame in winning the game and to play volleyball will never fade. It was yet again a heartbreaking loss.

But, with every loss, comes experience. Even if the season ends short of a trophy, the Blue Phoenix can use this as motivation for their next season. They maybe ranked as the last and the season may be wrapped up, but the team’s hunger to improve must never end. May Blue Phoenix’s flame shine bright in the next season! The champion for the season is PSD
