The campaign and election period for academic year 2018-2019’s Supreme Student Government came to an end on the 2nd of August 2018. The school organized a team-building activity for the officers and committee members of both the SPG and the SSG at the NKP playroom on the 10th of August, wherein the importance of the term ‘teamwork’ and how the students would apply this concept to their leadership strategies were highlighted.

The program commenced with a doxology, followed by the Qatari and Philippine national anthems. Afterwards, Mr Jason A. Iyas, the school principal, started off with a speech saying. He quoted: “the purpose of having this school team building activity is for you to be prepared for new roads as leaders of the school.” Mr Iyas emphasized that as leaders, they should know that there is no “I” in team. He pointed out that, in essence, one cannot lead effectively without the cooperation of others. The speech was then followed by the introduction of the event’s facilitators, as announced by Ms Neuwee M. Martinez. After this, the candidates of the SPG were sent to the crossroads hall in building d for their team-building activity while the candidates of the ssg remained.

The first activity was led by the ever-enthusiastic Mr arnold E. Javier. The students were asked to form a circle and introduce themselves and their favourite superheroes one-by-one. Shortly afterwards, Ms joyce Sarabillo started the second activity wherein she asked the 21 high school students that were present to form three groups. The activity was about lifting someone whenever she would state a positive trait. The students who were lifted up embodied that trait the most. For the third activity, still led by Ms Sarabillo, the students all had to gather in a circle count off to 21. The condition was that they had to do the count-off one at a time randomly and if two or more people said the same number, they had to repeat the whole counting process. For the final activity, Ms Sarah Joy S. Tomias took over and instructed the students to return to their former groups, to build a tower using only sheets of newspaper.

Towards the end of the team-building activity that was held, Franz Diego M. Camat, the newly-elected SSG president, gave his closing remarks, which emphasized the significance of the event. He stated: “the very essence of this activity is to show us, upcoming leaders of this school, how we are going to lead and what we really mean when it comes to leading and why it is important.”

“As leader, you need to work with your members, with the members of the team,” was a very important reminder from Sir Iyas. “so I hope that this activity will enlighten you regarding the importance of teamwork, the significance of understanding and working with others, collaboration, and most especially, understanding the true essence of being a leader.”
